NTS News

Last revised 8 June 2001

The digitial version of the February 26, 1965 edition of the NTS News was provided by D.Carr, whose father, Will Carr, organized visits by three groups of astronauts to the Nevada Test Site. At NTS, the astronauts were shown craters formed by the detonation of nuclear explosives buried shallowly enough that ejecta craters were formed. Morphologically, these craters are very similar to lunar impact craters.

Will Carr worked for the United States Geological Services for 32 years. For most of his career, he was based in Denver at the Special Projects Branch which performed geological analyses in support of Atomic Energy Commission underground nuclear tests at the Nevada Test Site and at Amchitka Island in the Aleutians. He retired in 1989 but continued to do consulting work for the USGS and Sandia National Laboratory.
