Journal Contributor Rich Orloff is author of "Apollo By The Numbers: A Statistical Reference", published in the spring of 2001 by NASA as part of their ongoing history series. The 344-page reference can be purchased online from the Government Printing Office at http://bookstore.gpo.gov/ -- search on NASA SP-2000-4029. It is also viewable online, without photos. The book presents statistical information about each of the manned Apollo flights that has been long buried in numerous technical memoranda and historical studies.
"Apollo By The Numbers" took 12 years to compile and consists of 13 chapters, one for each of the 11 manned Apollo missions, plus one for the Apollo 1 fire and one 50-page chapter of summarizing statistics for the 11 flown missions.
Rich has worked for the Asbury Park Press, a Gannett newspaper in N.J., since 1979. Prior to that he was a radio writer for 9 years. He has a B.A. in English from Montclair State College in N.J., and an M.S. in advertising from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications. He also has been a freelance space writer and photographer since 1992.
