TITLE: "For New Frontiers"
A space art tribute to the Challenger astronauts. The artist,
a member of the art team covering mission 51-L, monitored
the progress of the voyager flyby of the Uranus system on
live TV at Kennedy Space Center . It was ironic that as Voyager
was accomplishing so much that week, the challenger mission
ended in tragedy. Although exploration of space by unmanned
mission have been a successful fact of life, there are those
heroes who are willing to risk their lives in the pursuit
of knowledge. They open the doors to the rest of us who do
not have this opportunity. This drawing depicts the spirit
of exploration exemplified by the challenger crew. They are
on the surface Miranda , giant cliffs of ice and rock, with
Uranus and seven of the tiny new moons discovered dominating
the sky. Kennedy Space Center January 28, 1986. Art size:
20" x 30"
