HQ Celebration
July 20, 1999

2:30 p.m.
HQ Auditorium

NASA HQ employees are invited to attend the celebration of Apollo 11's 30th Anniversary. The program will feature an audio-visual presentation by Michael Light, author of the recently published book "Full Moon", remarks by Administrator Goldin, and the Apollo 11 astronauts: Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.

An ice cream social, sponsored by the HQ Exchange Council, honoring the Apollo 11 astronauts will immediately follow in the west lobby.

Because seating in the auditorium is limited, employees are asked to be seated by 2:15 p.m. Badges will be required. The program will also be available for viewing on closed circuit television throughout the HQ building (internal HQ TV Channel 24).

The most thrilling of all journeys, the missions of the Apollo astronauts to the surface of the moon and back, yielded 32,000 extraordinarily beautiful photographs that record a unique human achievement. Until recently, only a handful of these photographs have been published; but now, for the first time, NASA has a allowed a selection of the master negatives and transparencies offsite to be scanned electronically, rendering the sharpest images of space that we have ever seen. Michael Light has woven 129 of these stunningly clear images into a single composite voyage, a narrative of breathtaking immediacy and authenticity that begins with the launch and is followed by a walk in space, an orbit of the Moon, a lunar landing and exploration, and a return to Earth with an orbit and splashdown.
