SUBJECT:Revision of Alternative Work Schedule Policies

A review of Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) policies by the Headquarters Human Resources Management Division, and clarification of the regulations by the Office of Personnel Management on this subject, revealed that some of the policies and practices NASA Headquarters has been using are incorrect. The enclosure to this letter is to clarify the policy and procedures used at Headquarters for AWS.

The enclosed revision of policy will be effective immediately when applying AWS schedules. Previous procedures used for AWS schedules, and specifically holidays, have been reviewed, and guidance to make any necessary adjustments has been issued. We apologize for the inconvenience and the confusion this has caused.

Also, areas within the NASA Headquarters AWS Desk Guide that is attached to HQMI 3610.2A are contradictory or inaccurate. Where it conflicts with the AWS Desk Guide, this memorandum supersedes those inaccuracies. Revisions to the appropriate guidance and instructions will be incorporated along with any necessary corrections at a future date.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Mr. Mitch DeShong on 358-1564.
