ABOUT THE HQ CIO
In January 2008, Les Newell became the new Headquarters Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Director, Information Technology and Communications Division (ITCD). Mr. Newell has more than 30 years of senior Information Technology (IT) technical and program management experience in the Government, Commercial, and International business sectors. He has successfully performed in executive IT positions from Project Manager to Chief Executive Office (CEO) managing large complex organizations to support Government programs, Commercial outsourcing contracts, and International service contracts.

MISSION
ITCD provides a full range of information technology (IT) and communications products and services to support the programmatic and institutional functions of Headquarters employees and organizations. This includes:
- Provision of all computer, network, telephone, facsimile, video and teleconferencing, and automated information systems;
- All services, from IT security, delivery of electronic mail, and interactive Internet communications to the distribution of science and engineering data; and
- Printing, duplication, graphics design, exhibit design, and document services.
The Division is also responsible for providing an effective IT management program, prescribing, developing, and implementing policies, guidelines, standards, architectures, and procedures that foster a secure, cost-effective, interoperable IT environment in direct support of NASA's mission. In conjunction with these activities, the Division assures that its services are integrated into NASA-wide services and in accordance with the "One NASA" strategic direction.
