SMARTCARDS @ HEADQUARTERS

Smartcard Functionality is Coming Soon!
Image of NASA smartcard
Currently, to login to your desktop or laptop computer, you enter your Agency User ID and a 12-character password.  Soon, you will also have the option to use your smartcard (your NASA badge) to login. Smartcards are easy to use and secure. Just insert your smartcard into the smartcard reader and enter your PIN, the 6-8 digit code you selected when you first received your NASA badge. See smartcard documentation below for details on using your smartcard and PIN.

Don't remember your Smartcard PIN?

To have your PIN reset, visit the HQ Badging Office in Room 1V63, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Smartcard Migration

Beginning Monday, October 19, Smartcard functionality will be enabled for Windows users in a phased migration of about 300 users per week. You will be notified of your personal migration date in an IT Notice. All Windows users will be smartcard-enabled by Friday, December 11. Smartcard functionality for Macintosh computers is currently in work, though no deployment date is yet available. Check this Web page for updates.

Can I still login to my computer using my User ID and password?

While you are encouraged to use your smartcard to login to your computer once you are smartcard-enabled, you may still login as you do now with your Agency User ID and 12-character password. This method will be required if you forget your smartcard at home or forget your PIN.  Therefore, it is important to maintain your desktop login password, which is required to be updated every 60 days.
