1.2.1.2 Biodiversity Capacity

Definition: The ability of an ecosystem to naturally maintain a mix of biota (flora and fauna). This includes the variety of ecosystems, the species within an ecosystem, and the genetic variations within an ecosystem. Thiss applies to all land and ocean ecosystems.

Biodiversity Capacity Categories:

1.2.1.2.1 Biota Population: The total population of each species of biota. This does not include human population (see Population under Human Capital). (Definition Source: None)

1.2.1.2.2 Ecosystem Diversity: The ability to naturally maintain a wide variety of ecosystems. This capacity generally applies to a broad geographic area and whole classes of ecosystems. (Definition Source: None)

1.2.1.2.3 Genetic Diversity: The ability of an ecosystem to naturally maintain a mix of genetic material within specfic species or groups of closely related species. (Definition Source: None)

1.2.1.2.4 Species Diversity: The ability to naturally maintain multiple species within a single or multiple ecosystems. (Definition Source: None)
