1.1.2.3.8 Retail Trade

Definition: All establishments engaged in selling merchandise for peronal or household consumption and rendering services incidental to the sale of the goods.

Retail Trade Categories:

1.1.2.3.8.1 Apparel and Accessory Stores: All retail stores primarily engaged in selling new clothing, shoes, hats, underwear, and related articles for personal wear and adornment. This also includes furriers and custom tailers carrying stocks of materials. (Definition Source: Standard Industrial Classification)

1.1.2.3.8.2 Automotive Dealers and Gasoline Service Industry: All retail dealers selling new and used automobiles, boats, recreational vehicles, utility trailers, and motorcycles; those selling new automobile parts and accessories; and gasoline service stations. This does not include establishments primarily engaged in selling used automobile parts (see Wholesale Trade). (Definition Source: Standard Industrial Classification)

1.1.2.3.8.3 Building Materials Industry: All retail establishments engaged in selling lumber and other building materials; paint, glass, and wallpaper; hardware; nursery stock; lawn and garden supplies; and mobile homes. This does not include establishments that primarily sell plumbing, heating, air-conditioning equipment and electrical supplies (see Wholesale Trade). 1.1.2.3.8.4 Eating and Drinking Places: All retail establishments selling prepared foods and drinks for consumption on the premises; and also lunch counters and refreshment stands selling prepared foods and drinks for immediate consumption. This does not include restaurants and lunch counters operated as a subordinate service facility by other establishments, such as hotel and department stores restaurants. 1.1.2.3.8.5 Food Stores: All retail stores primarily engaged in selling food for home preparation and consumption. This does not include establishments primarily engaged in selling food and drinks for consumption on the premises (see Eating and Drinking Places) or packaged beers and liquors (see Miscellaneous Retail). 1.1.2.3.8.6 General Merchandise Stores: All retail stores that sell a number of lines of merchandise, such as dry goods, apparel and accessories, furniture and homefurnishings. This does not include stores that primarily sell used merchandise or those selling merchandise primarily by mail, vending machine, or direct selling (see Miscellaneous Retail). 1.1.2.3.8.7 Home Furniture, Furnishings, and Equipment Stores: All retail stores selling goods used for furnishing the home, such as furniture, floor coverings, draperies, glass and chinaware, and electrical and gas appliances.
