+ Future Real at FutureFlight
FutureFlight Central, a two-story facility at Ames, offers a 360-degree, full-scale view and real-time simulation of any airport in the world. At this virtual airport, actual controllers, pilots and airport personnel test new procedures, technologies, and airport expansion designs.

+ First Woman in Center's History is One of Two New Test Pilots
Two new research test pilots, Kelly Latimer and Nils Larson, have joined the Flight Crew Branch at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base. Latimer and Larson come to Dryden after extensive test and operational flying careers in the U.S. Air Force.
+ Supersonic Jousting
Jet-borne "jousting" is combating supersonic shockwaves, hopefully enough to lessen the resulting sonic boom heard on the ground.
+ Dryden Has Role in Blended Wing Body Testing
NASA Dryden will be preparing for actual flight tests of a second X-48B Blended Wing Body prototype later this year; the first X-48B prototype is currently being tested in a NASA Langley wind tunnel.
+ ISO a Few Good Thermals
NASA engineers fly a 14-foot sailplane to see if the craft can catch thermals like birds and ride them, extending flight range and conserving fuel.
+ Altair UAV Flies Lengthy Science Missions for NOAA
The NOAA and NASA recently concluded a joint series of environmental science demonstration flights with the Altair UAV.

+ Pilots Turn to NASA Glenn for Icing Training
The Icing Branch team at NASA Glenn recently added the Web-based course, "A Pilot's Guide to Ground Icing," to its growing catalogue of de-icing training materials.

+ NASA Strives to Make Flying Safer and More Comfortable
Engineers in NASA's Aviation Safety Program are working to tackle the issue of atmospheric turbulence.
+ Industry Uses NASA Wind Tunnels to Design New Airplanes
The U.S. National Transonic Facility at NASA Langley was recently used by the Boeing Company to test wing trailing edge design concepts for its new 787 aircraft.
+ This Isn't Your Father's Cockpit
Pilots on a NASA Boeing 757 aircraft just completed the next series of tests of the Synthetic Vision System (SVS)—a new cockpit set-up that replaces gauges and dials with display screens. Using SVS technology, pilots are able to "see" terrain and obstacles even in bad weather or darkness.
