The Research Flight Deck (RFD) Simulator is an advanced all-glass jet transport simulator. The simulator is driven by a Boeing 757-200 aircraft dynamics mathematical model. The cockpit includes eight Category D size displays on which primary flight information, navigation/map information, engine information, and other specified system parameters are displayed. There are two control display units, each located in a pedestal mounted between the pilots’ knees. There is a heads-up display mounted in front of the pilot, and there is a center aisle stand mounted between the two pilots. Each pilot has a two-axes side stick control loader system for pitch/roll control and a set of control loaded rudder pedals. The pilot’s side stick controller is mounted on his left side, and the copilot’s side stick controller is mounted on his right side. The cockpit’s visual system is a panorama system, which provides 200 degrees horizontal field-of-view and 40 degrees vertical field-of-view. The visual system is driven by a state-of-the-art computer generated image system.
