+ November 29, 2007: Fundamental Aeronautics Pre-proposal Conference:
"Advanced Concept Studies for Subsonic and Supersonic Commercial Transports Entering Service in the 2030-35 Period"
Washington, DC
NASA is seeking to stimulate innovation and foster the pursuit of
revolutionary conceptual designs for aircraft that could enter into
service in the 2030-35 time period. The broad aeronautics community is
invited to this event to learn about this new topic, which will be an
amendment to the ARMD NRA, ROA-2007. The topic focuses on both subsonic
and supersonic transports that can overcome significant performance and
environmental challenges for the benefit of the general public.
+ November 26, 2007: Technical Seminar: "Exploring Hypersonic Flow using Laser Spectroscopy"
Washington, DC
Laser-spectroscopic imaging methods can provide high-quality
visualizations of planar slices in hypersonic flows and measure
parameters like temperature, velocity, pressure and gas composition
without disturbing the flow itself. This talk will describe the use and
application of three laser-based spectroscopic measurement (NO PLIF,
CARS and IRS) techniques to study hypersonic flows and supersonic
combustion.
+ November 17, 2007: "America by Air" Exhibition, National Air and Space Museum
Washington, DC
NASA is the major sponsor of this new permanent exhibition that tells
the story of passenger air travel in the United States from early
attempts to form airlines only a decade after Kitty Hawk, to the
commercial challenges and technical sophistication of the 21st-century
jet age.
+ October 30-November 1, 2007: Fundamental Aeronautics Annual Meeting
New Orleans, Louisiana
This three-day meeting for the Fundamental Aeronautics Program will
convene the aeronautics community to examine the current work and future
plans of the four projects within the program. Participants will be able
to attend technical sessions to interact with Fundamental Aeronautics
project managers and researchers.
+ October 16, 2007: Technical Seminar: "Recent Progress in Aircraft Noise Research"
Washington, DC
Advances in aircraft noise research can be attributed to the development
of new technologies and sustained collaboration with industry,
universities and government organizations.
+ October 10-12, 2007: Aviation Safety Technical Conference
St. Louis, Missouri
This three-day conference provides the aviation safety research
community with detailed updates on the Aviation Safety Program's current
plans and accomplishments to date. Participants will also be able to
attend breakout sessions for more focused interaction with individual
Aviation Safety research projects.
+ September 18, 2007: Technical Seminar: "The Evolution of Jet Engine Blade Containment Systems"
Washington, DC
In today's modern commercial jet engines the fan case is among the
largest and heaviest components of the engine. During normal flight the
fan case provides structural support for the inlet/nacelle structure and
confines the fan air flow path. However, in the event of an engine blade
failure the fan case also provides protection to the aircraft structure
by containing any separated fragments within the engine environment. As
engine designs increase in size and power, the lightweight rugged
materials needed to meet this protection requirement is one of the most
challenging issues for new engine developments.
+ August 9, 2007: Pre-proposal Conference
Washington, DC
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Headquarters,
Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) is preparing a major
addition to the "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics" (ROA) NASA
Research Announcement (NRA), (NRA number NNH07ZEA001N). In keeping with
the current structure of the ROA NRA, ARMD plans to amend the NRA by
adding an Appendix with the detailed requirements of the Integration of
Advanced Concepts and Vehicles into the Next Generation Air
Transportation System proposal topic.
+ June 26, 2007: Technical Seminar: "Modeling and Optimization in Traffic Flow Management"
Washington, DC
The growing traffic demand, rise in oil prices, delays in building new
runways and security issues are putting pressures on the system to
evolve from the current procedure-based human-centered system to a more
flexible system with higher levels of automation.
+ May 18, 2007: Technical Seminar: "The Quest for Onboard Real-Time Characterization of Aircraft Stability and Control"
Washington, DC
Initial characterization of aircraft stability and control is typically based on wind tunnel tests of subscale models and/or computation fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations.
+ May 14-17, 2007: ASME Turbo Expo
Montreal, Canada
Technical sessions for Information Fusion Methods for Diagnostics
(Session 5-8) and Instrumentation (Session 5-14) are being organized
by NASA researchers.
+ May 14-17, 2007: Joint Army Navy NASA Air Force Interagency (JANNAF) Propulsion Meeting
Denver, CO
+ April 16-19, 2007: Aging Aircraft 2007
Palm Springs, CA
NASA experts on aircraft and spacecraft aging will present a variety of technical papers at this conference.
+ March 27-29, 2007: Aerospace Testing Expo 2007
Munich, Germany
The Aeronautics Test Program will exhibit during this event.
+ March 20, 2007: Technical Seminar: "TPS and Hot Structures for Hypersonic Vehicles - Recent Advances and Technical Challenges"
Washington, DC
Hypersonic vehicles differ significantly from rocket-based vehicles in their architecture and mission.
