Alexander Lippisch (1894-1976) was one of the great pioneers of
delta-wing aircraft, publishing the results of his life's work in his
book The Delta Wing. Lippisch is best remembered as the creator of
record-breaking swept-back-wing Storch gliders during the 1920s, and the
designer of famous planes such as the Me-163 Komet (1940-45), the
world's first successful production rocket fighter, and the Convair
F-102 and F-106 supersonic delta-wing fighters. The delta wing is
extensively used today for high-speed flight. Both the Space Shuttle and
the Anglo-French Concord along with many proposed high speed or
supersonic aircraft use or propose to use a delta wing.
