+ American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Awards.
  • AIAA Sustained Service Award.
Awarded to Karl Bilimoria (ARC) in recognition of sustained service to the AIAA's technical activities and publications in flight mechanics, guidance, navigation and control, and air traffic management.

  • AIAA Aerodynamics Award.
Awarded to Robert Hall (LaRC) for outstanding contributions toward understanding the flow physics and configuration aerodynamics of high performance aircraft.

  • AIAA Thermophysics Award.
Awarded to Daniel Reda (ARC) for pioneering research on boundary layer transition for hypersonic flows over ablative thermal-protection-system materials and the advancement of ballistics ranges.

  • AIAA Ground Testing Award.
Awarded to Blair Gloss (LaRC) for outstanding contributions to the ground testing community, and in recognition of his knowledge and expertise in the field of subsonic and supersonic aeronautic ground test facilities.
+ American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Fellow.
Ali Abdul-aziz, Ph.D. (GRC) for his high-level research in the areas of materials development, heat transfer, structural mechanics, experimental fatigue testing, and non-destructive evaluation techniques.

David P. Fleming (GRC) for his research in rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, and other mechanical components.

+ Aviation Week and Space Technology Aerospace Laureates Hall of Fame Award in Information Technology/Electronics.
Awarded to the Synthetic Vision Systems team at NASA Langley Research Center for bringing enhanced-vision avionics to an impressive level of functionality, and significantly improving aircraft safety during reduced visibility flight conditions.

+ Aviation Week and Space Technology Aerospace Laureates Hall of Fame Award in Aeronautics/Propulsion.
Awarded to the Hyper-X program manager Vincent Rausch and supersonic-combustion ramjet engine developer Randall Voland (LaRC). The entire X-43 Hyper-X scramjet team from LaRC and NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (DFRC) was recognized for extraordinary team accomplishment.

+ Emerald Honors Scientist of the Year Award.
Awarded to Isaiah M. Blankson, Ph.D. (GRC) for his exceptional talent, achievements, and educational outreach work in a broad range of scientific fields. Dr. Blankson is a pioneer in magnetic levitation, novel applications to detect and resolve images from natural microwave emissions, and the use of exotic materials to build a new class of turbojet-ramjet engines. The Emerald Honors are the premier awards for Blacks, Hispanics, Asian Americans and Native Americans working in the research sciences.

+ Mexican American Engineering Society Medalla de Oro Award.
Awarded to Robert Navarro (DFRC) for outstanding achievement, technical contributions, and outreach to the Mexican-American community.

+ National Society of Black Engineers Golden Torch Award for Outstanding Woman in Technology of the Year.
Awarded to Laurie Grindle (DFRC) for her professional achievements in the fields of science and engineering.

+ Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Senior Professional.
Awarded to Dr. Heinz Erzberger (ARC) for scientific and engineering excellence, and for impeccable technical leadership leading to development of a new air traffic control (ATC) technology that bridges the traditional manual approach and computer-assisted ATC. Dr. Erzberger received the highest honor in this Rank Award category, which is for leaders, professionals, and scientists who achieve results and consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, industry, and a relentless commitment to excellence in public service. Rank Award nominations are evaluated by boards of private citizens and approved by the President.

+ R&D 100 Awards.
  • R&D 100 Award.
Awarded to NASA Glenn Research Center and the team behind the Multi-Parameter, MicroSensor-Based Low False Alarm Fire Detection System, which significantly lowers the rate of false fire alarms in aircraft cargo and baggage compartments.

  • R&D 100 Editor's Choice Award for the Product with Greatest Impact on Safety.
Awarded to NASA Ames Research Center and the team behind The Morning Report: Advanced Proactive Safety and System Monitoring Tool. The Morning Report analyzes massive amounts of data from atypical flights to identify patterns that could signal problems during flight.

  • R&D 100 Award.
Awarded to NASA Glenn Research Center and the team behind the ME3-Advanced Turbine Disk Alloy, a new alloy that improves the life of turbine and compressor disks inside civilian/military gas turbine engines.
