NASA ANNOUNCES OHIO AERONAUTICS RESEARCH AWARDS
WASHINGTON - NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, Aviation
Safety Program, has awarded approximately $152,000 to Cleveland State
University for its proposal, "Smart Structural Health Monitoring of
Rotating Components Using Active Magnetic Force Actuators."
The General Electric Company, Cincinnati, will receive approximately
$148,000 for its proposal, "Ductile Coating for Turbine Disk Hot
Corrosion Protection." NASA also has awarded approximately $140,000 to
the University of Dayton for its proposal, "Methodology and
Computational Implementation of Cracking and Delamination Networks
Modeling in Laminated Composites" and approximately $105,000 to the
University of Akron for its proposal, "Modeling and Testing of Aging
Degradation Effects on Dynamic/Impact Performance of Advanced Braided
Composites for Jet Engine Fan Cases/Blade Containment Systems."
These awards will foster close collaboration with and facilitate the
exchange of ideas and information among researchers within NASA,
industry, academia and other government agencies to benefit the nation's
aeronautics community.
NASA conducts cutting-edge research to improve the safety of current and
future aircraft operating in the National Airspace System. The research
will focus on the way vehicles are designed, built, operated and
maintained. Scientists and engineers in this program develop principles,
concepts, tools, methods and technologies to address four areas:
aircraft aging and durability, integrated intelligent flight deck
technologies, integrated vehicle health management and integrated
resilient aircraft control.
