NASA ANNOUNCES MASSACHUSETTS AERONAUTICS RESEARCH AWARDS
WASHINGTON - NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate,
Fundamental Aeronautics Program, Washington, has announced the following
aeronautics research awards to Massachusetts institutions:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.
Proposal Title: Development and Application of a Higher-Order, Adaptive
Method for Aerodynamic and Sonic-Boom Design of Supersonic Aircraft
Approximate Amount: $296,000
Proposal Title: Adaptive Robust Control for Hypersonic Vehicles (ARCH)
Approximate Amount: $177,000
These awards will foster close collaboration with and facilitate the
exchange of ideas and information among researchers at NASA, industry,
academia, and other government agencies to benefit the nation's
aeronautics community.
The Fundamental Aeronautics Program is dedicated to the mastery and
intellectual stewardship of the core competencies of aeronautics for the
nation across all flight regimes. The corresponding long-term research
that the program performs is both focused and integrated across
disciplines. Using this research, the program provides feasible
solutions to the performance and environmental challenges of current and
future air vehicles. The results of our pre-competitive research are
widely disseminated and available to support the nation's aerospace
industry. Fundamental Aeronautics concentrates research in four areas:
Subsonic Fixed Wing, Subsonic Rotary Wing, Supersonics, and Hypersonics.
