NASA ANNOUNCES CALIFORNIA AERONAUTICS RESEARCH AWARDS

NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate, Airspace Systems Program, Washington, has announced the following aeronautics research awards to California academic institutions:

University of California-Berkeley
Proposal Title: A Unified Approach to Strategic Models and Performance Evaluation For Traffic Flow Management.
Approximate Amount: $331,000

Stanford University, Stanford
Proposal Title: Integrating Collision Avoidance and Tactical Air Traffic Control Tools.
Approximate Amount: $507,000

University Of California-Santa Cruz, Moffett Field
Proposal Title: Concepts and Algorithms for Automated Separation Assurance.
Approximate Amount: $189,000

California State University at San Jose, San Jose
Proposal Title: Computational Models of Human Workload: Definition, Refinement, Integration, and Validation in Fast Time National Airspace Simulations.
Approximate Amount: $417,000

California State University at Long Beach, Long Beach
Proposal Title: Metrics for Operator Situation Awareness, Workload and Performance in Automated Separation Assurance Systems.
Approximate Amount: $750,000

The awards are designed to foster close collaboration with and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information among researchers at NASA, industry, academia, and other government agencies to benefit the nation's aeronautics community.

The Airspace Systems Program conducts cutting-edge research that will enable the Next Generation Air Transportation System. In partnership with the Joint Planning and Development Office, the program will help develop the concepts, capabilities and technologies that will lead to the significant enhancements in capacity, efficiency and flexibility needed to meet the nation's airspace and airportal requirements for decades to come.
