PARTNERS: UNIVERSITY
University Research, Engineering and Technology Institutes (URETI)

Image left: B-727 Vortex Study.

University Research, Engineering, and Technology Institutes (URETI's) are competitively selected proposals for university research teams that are managed by the aeronautics field centers. The initial award was for up to $3M per year for five (5) years, and renewable to for up to ten (10) years. Only colleges and universities could lead proposals, and there were no provisions for "bricks and mortar" activities in establishing these institutes. Proposal selections were made by NASA Headquarters and established via Cooperative Agreements. The URETI Goals:
  • Increased University Role in NASA's Future
  • Cutting-Edge Research and Technology
  • Multidisciplinary and Synergistic Research Groups
  • Enhanced NASA Workforce
  • NASA-Relevant Educational Opportunities for Students
  • Internationally Recognized Centers of Excellence in Aerospace Technology
