National Airspace System (NAS) on local and inter-facility levels by
rapidly processing large volumes of complex air traffic data, extracting
and visualizing information from these data, and providing a secure
network through which facilities across the U.S share and discuss the
information. Credit: NASA Ames Research Center, Irv Statler
Acknowledging once again that "knowledge is king" in aviation, NASA and
the FAA completed joint development of a software system to augment the
FAA's capability to monitor and discover hazardous conditions across the
national airspace.
The Performance Data Analysis and Reporting System (PDARS) analyzes
aircraft and air traffic data, and provides customized reports regarding
throughput, efficiency, and safety to all 20 Air Route Traffic Control
Centers in the continental United States.
PDARS gives airspace managers the ability to further divide airspace
sectors where traffic volume is especially high, and to detect gaps and
overlaps in those new divisions.
