The Bioethics and Transition
to Practice Division

The Bioethics and Transition to Practice Division is responsible for the NASA policies and
practices related to the translation of health/medical research findings and information into NASA
medical implementation, and that govern the protection of research subjects. The Division has 2
principle functions. One is to ensure that health/medical criteria are appropriately incorporated
into mission planning and vehicle design, and that health/medical research products and
deliverables meet the necessary criteria before they are implemented as standard NASA
medical practice. The other is to ensure that all NASA medical/health associated policies and
practices adhere to the highest bioethical standards. This function includes oversight of all
NASA activities related to the use of human and animal subjects in research, and the Agency's
compliance with all relevant Federal Regulations.
