Badging Office

The NASA HQ Badging Office is located in the HQ Security Office (suite 1J20), room 1K26. The hours of operation are Mon – Fri from 08:30 to 11:30 AM and 1:30 to 3:30PM (closed from 11:30 to 12:30). Walk-ins are welcome however, appointments are preferred and take precedence. Appointments can be made by calling (202) 358-2422 / 1192.

The following services are offered at the Badging Office:

  • Enrollment for Personal Identification Verification (PIV)
  • Pick-up PIV
  • Receive Temporary (Local) Badge
  • Receive Replacement Badge
  • Reset PIV PINs
  • Update Certs for PIV

If a NASA employee has lost, misplaced, or has their NASA badge stolen, they must contact the badging office immediately at (202) 358-2422. If after business hours, employees shall call the NASA HQ Security Control Center at (202) 358-0060.

Employees must submit NASA HQ Form 290 (Missing Badge Report) outlining the specific details concerning the circumstances for the loss of the badge. Questions concerning this form should be directed to the NASA HQ Investigator at (202) 358-0198. Employees will not receive a temporary (local) badge or be enrolled for a replacement PIV until the Investigator has received a detailed statement.

NASA HQ Credential Renewals (Personal Identification Verification (PIV)

As NASA Headquarters employees approach the expiration of their PIV, they will receive an auto generated message from IdMAX with instructions to contact the NASA HQ Badging Office for further instructions / procedures.

NASA employees due for an Office of Personnel Management (OPM) re-investigation, will receive by email from the NASA HQ Security Administrative Team or the NASA Shared Services Center (NSSC). The email will provide specific instructions on accessing the site and the suspense date for completing the Electronic Questionnaires for Investigations Processing (E-QIP). Note: If your PIV is expiring and you receive E-QIP instructions, E-QIP must be completed prior to processing for a new PIV.
