SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Guidance for NASA HQ Employees for Inauguration Day
Date: Friday, January 20, 2017
Contact: Dave Redman, Director, Facilities and Administrative Services Division, (202) 358-4577

The Office of Personnel Management has determined that Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2017 is a holiday for federal employees who work in the “Inauguration Day area” (defined in law as the District of Columbia, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties in Maryland, Arlington and Fairfax Counties in Virginia, and the cites of Alexandria and Falls Church).

As with other holidays, the NASA Headquarters building will remain open and will be accessible to personnel with a NASA badge on Jan. 20, 2017. The garage will be operated in a weekend/holiday mode with access via the badge reader only; no staff will be manning the booths. All access to the building from the garage will be via the west side elevators providing access to the west lobby. The east lobby will be closed, and the elevators servicing this lobby will not be operating.

Please note: While NASA Headquarters has not received any specific information to date, during previous Inauguration Days, the NASA Headquarters building has fallen within a Vehicle Restricted Area. Drivers may have to show their government ID to access E Street SW and may possibly be denied access. Street closures are also a possibility. Specific guidance will be issued as available.

Contractors should work with their senior management and their NASA Contracting Officer to determine how this guidance applies to their specific contract.
