About the HQ Mail Program
As the Headquarters budget and staff continue to decrease and postage rates continue to rise, it is critical that we do all we can to help keep a lid on postage expenditures. It is important to use the most economical class of mailing, while not delaying the timeliness of the delivery. This is applicable to day-to-day mailing and is particularly important for mass mailings.
It is certain that our communications and outreach activities will remain paramount to the stability of NASA's programs, and we need to make each and every mailing count! We need to continue to focus on "what we mail," "why we mail," "how we mail," "to whom we mail," and "how frequently we mail."
Mass mailings are expensive; postage is only one cost to consider. Three other "hidden costs" include the staff time to: 1) maintain databases for mailing addresses, 2) produce mailing labels, and 3) assemble the mail pieces for mailing. The printing costs of the documents and envelopes are other factors contributing to the overall cost for a mass mailing.
The Information Technology and Communications Division is committed to providing the highest quality of support services and are ready to help you meet current and future challenges in accomplishing your printing and mailing requirements. Professional services include: consultation for selecting the best mail piece design for publications, brochures, conference materials, solicitations, proceedings, and reports; document preparation, including layout, design, editing, and proofreading; internal and external mail list management; and postal design and classification. We provide expertise in applying the latest technologies in the printing and mailing industries. We also advocate using today's electronic-based publishing and dissemination capabilities as a better and more cost-effective means to communicate.
