Using Shared Drives and Folders on the NASA HQ Network
The chart below provides basic information on the HQ network structure and how to access your network files and shared drives. The documentation at the bottom explains in more detail how to access network files, how to create convenient shortcuts or aliases on your desktop for easy access to these files, and how to best manage your folders.

C: Drive
- Click the My Computer icon located on the desktop, or
- Windows key + E

A shared area on the network where all users have full rights to read, copy, and delete files. This should not be used as a permanent storage location because:
- The X:\ drive is purged every 60 days.
- Everyone has access to it and can view, move, add, or delete the information stored there.

A shared area on the network that contains all the workgroup folders. The folders under this share are cross-organizational and users from different organizations may have permissions to access their contents. |

This drive contains your organization’s folders. These folders are named to reflect the organization names (e.g. CFO) |

U: Drive

This drive contains personal user folders on the network where you can store anything you want kept secured, such as sensitive information. Only the user has access to his/her folder. |
