NETWORK SERVICES

Members of the NASA Headquarters community can access the HQ computer network locally via high-speed connection. This connection comes first to the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) desktop phone instrument, and then to your computer. HQ users can also access the Wireless Network for HQ Users and guests can access the Guest Network depending upon their level of credentials and need. There are various ways to connect to the HQ network by remote access: SNA or VPN.

Once connected, you will have access to a diverse set of computing resources at HQ. The ways you use the network will depend on your needs. For example, you might use the network to:

  • Browse the World Wide Web
  • Send and receive e-mail
  • Send and receive instant messages
  • Print
  • Backup and restore data
  • Exchange files
  • Publish Web pages
  • Work in Web-based and network-based applications

Username and Password

Every user must have a unique username and password to identify themselves. For HQ users, this occurs during the onboarding process.

To maintain compliance with the NASA Procedural Requirements (NPR) 2810.1A, all users must periodically change their passwords. You will be asked to change your password every 60 days and will receive notification via e-mail to do so. Failure to change your password by the due date will result in your account being disabled.

  • If your account is disabled, contact the Enterprise Service Desk (ESD) at 358-HELP to have it reset.
  • To change or reset your password remotely prior to its expiration, visit the HQ Domain Password Assistant Web page.

For more information on passwords, visit our HQ Domain Passwords FAQs (PDF).

For guests, see instructions on the Guest Network page.
