Office 2007 Upgrade – Deployment Window April 27, 2009 - May 8, 2009
Windows Users in Group 2
April 22, 2009

You are scheduled to receive the Microsoft Office 2007 upgrade during the deployment window April 27, 2009 - May 8, 2009. Please review the information provided in this notice to properly prepare for your upgrade.

Back Up Your Data

It is important that you perform a desktop backup prior to upgrading to Office 2007. You may take advantage of the automated backup service by leaving your computer connected to the HQ network overnight, or perform a manual backup on your own.

Installation Options

You will have two options for installing the Office 2007 suite:

  • Download and install, at your convenience, via the Software Refresh Portal (SRP)
  • Receive overnight push via Systems Management Server (SMS)

If however, you have not installed the Office 2007 upgrade by 8 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6 , you will automatically receive the upgrade during a mandatory daytime SMS push. This will entail a minimum 1 hour work stoppage.

Deployment Schedule

Date /Time
Method
Monday-Friday, April 27, 2009 – May 1, 2009 SRP Installation
Friday, May 1 (starting at 8 p.m.) – Tuesday, May 5 SMS Overnight Push
Wednesday, May 6 (starting at 8 a.m.) – Friday, May 8 SMS Daytime Push

Software Refresh Portal (SRP) Installation

Beginning Monday, April 27, you may visit the SRP at http://hqsms2k3\srp to install Office 2007. Prior to installation, save your work and close all applications. See complete instructions at http://www.hq.nasa.gov/itcd/documents/Office_2007_SRP_Instructions.doc. You will have until COB of Friday, May 1 to use the SRP deployment method.

SMS Overnight Installation

If you decide not to participate in the SRP deployment method, Office 2007 will be deployed to your computer via automated SMS push beginning at 8 p.m., Friday, April 17. RESTART your computer prior to leaving on any night beginning Friday, May 1through Tuesday, May 5. See complete instructions at http://www.hq.nasa.gov/itcd/documents/Office_2007_Overnight_Push.doc.

SMS Daytime Installation

If you decline to participate in both the SRP deployment and overnight automated push between Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 21, a daytime automated push will be performed. This daytime automated push can happen anytime between Wednesday, May 6 and Friday, May 8. This will entail a minimum 1-hour work stoppage while Office 2007 is being installed on your computer. See complete instructions at http://www.hq.nasa.gov/itcd/documents/Office_2007_Daytime_Push.doc.

The Microsoft Office 2007 suite is a major overhaul of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. Office 2007 has a different look-and-feel. There are many new application features and a new user interface called the "Ribbon." Many icons and commands that you have grown accustomed to have moved and will work differently in Office 2007.

You will be provided with a Microsoft Office 2007 upgrade package to include quick reference guides, compatibility tips, and more. For more information on the Office 2007 upgrade at NASA HQ, training options, and documentation on the differences between Office 2003 and 2007, visit the Office 2007@HQ Web page.
