Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) Password Policy
All NASA HQ Employees
July 28, 2008
NASA HQ is implementing the NASA approved version of the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC), mandated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). FDCC must be implemented by July 31, 2008. While FDCC is targeted to Windows computers, the new password policy applies to both Macintosh and Windows computers. The policy includes changes to the expiration date and length of HQ domain passwords.
FDCC requires a password change every 60 days instead of every 90 days. If your current password is older than 60 days on Friday, August 1, you will be prompted to change it. New passwords must be at least 12 characters in length.
Macintosh users are advised to change their passwords while in the office when possible. Changing Macintosh or Entourage passwords remotely often results in error messages within the Safari browser application.
