SOFTPHONE

SoftPhone makes use of the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system to transmit voice data over the Internet. Specifically, SoftPhone allows you to make and receive “phone” calls from your NASA-issued computer. When used in combination with Virtual Private Network (VPN), you can place and receive calls from your HQ extension (202-358-xxxx) no matter where you are. The presence of voicemail messages is displayed on your computer screen, and you can listen to your messages with a single mouse click.

OBTAINING A SOFTPHONE ACCOUNT

You must have an account to use SoftPhone. To request a SoftPhone account, contact the Computer Training Center at ctc@hq.nasa.gov or 202-358-1111.
Then, schedule either an individualized assistance session or attend a SoftPhone class (see schedule) to learn how to use the software features, and to receive your login credentials and headset. You must attend training to receive your credentials and headset.

TRAINING

Classroom training in use of softphone is available (see schedule), and can also be scheduled by request.  Individual deskside assistance is also available by appointment. Contact the Computer Training Center at ctc@hq.nasa.gov or 202-358-1111 to make arrangements.
