Katherine M. Dakon
ASAP Executive Director
Ms. Dakon has nearly 15 years of experience in supporting and managing Federal advisory committees at NASA Headquarters. She managed a very extensive set of advisory groups within the Office of Space Science during the early 1990’s, then moved to the Office of Policy and Plans and directly supported the operations of the NASA Advisory Council (NAC). When responsibility for the NAC moved to the Office of External Relations (OER) in 2001, Ms. Dakon continued in her support role for this senior advisory committee to the NASA Administrator. For the past two years, she has served as the full-time Committee Management Specialist in OER’s Advisory Committee Management Division, ensuring Agency-wide compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) and providing guidance and support to all of NASA’s advisory committees. She also has been NASA’s principal interface with the U.S. General Services Administration in implementing her FACA consultation and reporting responsibilities. Ms. Dakon played a leading role in the establishment and management operations for the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board, a new Presidential advisory committee sponsored by NASA on behalf of seven Federal agencies to provide recommendations on the future of the U.S. Global Positioning System. Ms. Dakon began her Federal career at the Department of Defense and held a variety of positions there before moving to NASA in 1990.
