Alan J. Lamoreaux, Assistant IG for Management and Planning

Mr. Alan J. Lamoreaux has served as the National Aeronautics Space and Administration (NASA) Assistant Inspector General for Management and Planning in Washington D.C. since July 2004. He is responsible for budget and finance operations, human and administrative resources, information technology services, policy and analysis, and overall Office of Inspector General (OIG) planning and organizational development. The NASA OIG is comprised of approximately 200 criminal investigators, auditors, analysts, attorneys and support staff in 10 locations nationwide. The OIG is dedicated to preventing and detecting waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement and promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in NASA programs and operations.

Mr. Lamoreaux has also held the position of NASA Assistant Inspector General for Audits. He was responsible for a broad range of professional audits of NASA programs and projects and contractor activities that focused on key issues impacting the NASA mission. These issues related to the Space Shuttle and International Space Station Programs, procurements, the financial management program, and information technology security. In addition, he was responsible for oversight of audits by independent public accountants of non-profit organizations, colleges, and universities receiving substantial NASA funding. Mr. Lamoreaux provided leadership to a team of 100 audit professionals and support staff located at NASA Headquarters and 9 field locations. While AIGA, Mr. Lamoreaux testified on NASA financial management challenges before the House subcommittee on Government Efficiency, Management and Information Technology.

Mr. Lamoreaux also held senior OIG positions as the Inspector General Executive Officer and Assistant Inspector General for Management and External Relations (AIGMER). In those positions, he was responsible for all OIG external relations matters including liaison with Congressional staff, GAO, and the print and broadcast media. Earlier in his career with NASA, Mr. Lamoreaux served in various other positions including Director of Resources Management, Special Assistant for Audit Operations, and Special Assistant for Audit Policy and Planning. He also has extensive audit experience and held various management and staff positions with the Air Force Audit Agency. Mr. Lamoreaux also served as the first Director of Administrative Resources for the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General and is an Air Force veteran.

Mr. Lamoreaux, a member of the Senior Executive Service since 2001, is also a Certified Internal Auditor and holds a B.S. in Accounting (summa cum laude) from Christopher Newport University, Virginia, and an M.B.A. in Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He is married to the former Laurie Kline of Benton, PA, who is a research scientist at the National Institutes of Health. They have a daughter, Shannon, who is a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology.
