The XRS-2200 is the experimental version of the RS-2200 Aerospike Engine that may be used on the Lockheed Martin reusable launch vehicle, VentureStar.
Rocketdyne is developing the XRS-2200 for use on the X-33. Tests of the XRS-2200 will be carried out on an SR-71 jet, before installation of the final version of the engine on the X-33. These tests are being conducted as the Linear Aerospike SR-71 Experiment (LASRE). Information on the specifications and advantages of the XRS-2200 Aerospike Engine is available on Rocketdyne's XRS-2200 pages.
