Incorrect Use
Color
- Never use the NASA Insignia in a bright color.
- Never use the full colored version against a colorful background. White, black, gray (PMS 423) and silver (PMS 877) backgrounds only are permitted.
- Never change the original colors of the full color version.
- Never display a black Insignia against a darker toned background. Display the Insignia in that darker background color with a white line around it instead.
- On light backgrounds, never display the Insignia in that color with a white circle around it. Instead, display the insignia in black on that light tone.
- Never isolate elements of the Insignia in color.
- Never display the full color insignia with a white line around it.
- Never display the full color insignia against a full color photograph.
- Never use a background shade of color that matches the vector.
- Never put a white line around a black Insignia when it is displayed against a colored background.
Modify
- Never modify the Insignia in any way, whether by adding, elimination or otherwise changing design elements.
- Never replace the type element (Helvetica) with a different typeface.
- Never replace the NASA letter style in the Insignia with a font or with a NASA logo.
- Never use the Insignia in the reversed form (white).
- Never change the individual design elements of the Insignia to an outline.
- Never display the vector with a line gradation.
- When displaying the insignia with a white line on a dark background, never add a white line on the edges of the vector points.
Effects
- Never modify, manipulate or distort the NASA Insignia or its elements.
- Never distort the Insignia photographically or through computer manipulation.
- Never blur the NASA Insignia or render it out of focus.
- Never drop other elements inside the Insignia.
- Never superimpose type or an image over the NASA Insignia.
- Never superimpose the Insignia over an Image so that more than one tone shows through.
Crop, Scale & Size
- Never reproduce the Insignia less than 5/8 of an inch (except on a business card).
- Never crop the NASA Insignia so that the letters are not legible.
Position
- Never use the NASA Insignia and the NASA logo on the same visual material.
- Never tilt the Insignia more than 10 degrees for a background.
