The NASA Portal: Project Information

The Portal Mission

The NASA Public Portal was designed to provide one authoritative source of NASA content to the general public. To accomplish and facilitate this goal, NASA employees and contractors have worked diligently to create an environment that addresses the requirements of hundreds of disparate sites that NASA maintains.

The NASA Public Portal is a collaboration between the NASA's Office of the CIO and Office of Public Affairs with various NASA Centers and Directorates providing content and editorial guidance. We hope you find the information on this site useful, if you have suggestions or comments, please feel free to contact: Colin Enger.

Recent Portal Activities

10.5.06 - NASA Media Player Debuts.

The NASA Media Player was introduced to users for the first time last month. It's available by clicking on the
+ View Video link under Video Features on the home page.

09.14.06 - Join Me in Saying "Farewell" to Allison Hazen

I'd like to wax rhapsodic for a moment, since Allison joined our team, she quickly proved an irreplaceable resource for the CMS, as well as having great webmaster design skills. Well, she's leaving, and there is no replacement. She has such a "can do" attitude and a cheerful demeanor which I think will serve her well at her new job. Congratulations & Farewell to Allison!

09.14.06 - Join Me in Welcoming our new CMS Trainer!

If you're an employee of NASA you may find Celeste Merryman to be one of the most valuable members of your team: she's the new CMS Trainer. Join me in welcoming Celeste.

05.01.06 - Google Search Box is Installed and Running

Simple search (the home page search box for nasa.gov) is now powered by Google's search engine. Give it a try at: http://www.nasa.gov/home

04.28.06 - Footer RSS Feed Redux

An HTML version of the nasa.gov footer RSS feed is now ready. This was accomplished by transforming the RSS feed into HTML. Using an "iFrame" tag, you can now include it on your affinity web sites, as demonstrated at the bottom of this page. This means that any affinity site that uses this feed will not be required to update the footer when it changes, it is updated automatically.

The RSS feed is located at: http://www.nasa.gov/includes/NASA_Footer.rss
