Usability Guidelines

"A branded customer experience is a consistent representation and flawless execution, both online and offline, of the emotional connection, experience, and relationship you want your customers to have with your brand. Your customer's experience with your brand includes how that customer feels when he is in your brand's presence-whether he's using the telephone, visiting a physical storefront, surfing a Web site, reading an e-mail you sent, or actually using your product."

NASA Web Site Guidelines

To ensure a high level of usability and the optimal user experience, NASA web sites that follow any level of affinity should adhere to the user interface guidelines established for the NASA.gov portal.

The guidelines explain the information architecture of the NASA portal as well as information important for the production of graphics, user interface elements and navigation framework. (The NASA Portal Standards and Guidelines are available for download in the Related Links section on the right side of this page.)

Standardizing user interface elements such as font usage, color schemes, navigation, interaction behaviors and the location of common elements across NASA web sites will benefit users by establishing expectations, improving learnability and increasing user efficiency.

Editorial guidelines have also been established to ensure that NASA web sites use a consistent voice and grammar style to help maintain NASA's reputation as a credible resource.
