In Software Engineering: A Practitioner's Approach, author Robert Pressman shows that for every dollar spent to resolve a problem during product design, $10 would be spent on the same problem during development, and multiply to $100 or more if the problem had to be solved after the product's release.

Usability Overview

When is Usability Important?

A User Centered Design approach should be employed at the beginning of your project. Usability is important at each stage of the design process.

Conducting usability tests early in the design process is cheaper and easier because problems can be identified before too much time and money has been invested in the development. Catching structural usability issues early in the design phase can prevent major and costly re-architecting later in the development cycle.
