The General Services Administration and the Department of Justice have indicated that all Federal Agencies should anticipate repairing for accessibility compliance by July 26, 2000, each agency's Top Twenty websites. NASA Webmasters, representing all NASA facilities, and reporting to the NASA Chief Information Officer, interpreted this to mean the top twenty websites for the aggregate of the Agency's numerous websites, irrespective of location.
The criterion used was the number of hit counts/per server/per month. Server was defined to be a hierarchical website operating as either a physical or logical (virtual) server. Many centers operate several virtual servers on a single physical device. Although hit counts are not a highly accurate means of measuring web visitation, it was used because all Centers could report visitation in terms of hit counts.
These listings constitute an average of several months' worth of data taken during the Summer of 2000. The relative position of each of these servers may change from month-to-month, depending on mission status, science reporting, and other outside factors.
