Bill Clancey

Bill Clancey I am a computer scientist, specializing in artificial intelligence. My early work focused on developing computer programs that could diagnose diseases, explain their reasoning, and teach medical students. Today I believe that the best way to advance artificial intelligence research is to understand the differences between people and computer programs. In developing practical applications, we call this human-centered computing.

My professional interests include relating computational models to neuropsychology, building visualization tools for designing work systems, and applying AI technology in commercial ventures.

June 2003 Editor's note: See Bill's analysis of interactions between the CapCom and the lunar surface crew.
