Integration Aviation Systems Program


INTEGRATED AVIATION SYSTEMS PROGRAM
One of the greatest issues NASA faces in transitioning advanced technologies into future aeronautics systems is the gap caused by the difference between the maturity of technologies developed through fundamental research and the maturity required for those technologies to be infused into future air vehicles and operational systems.

The objective of the IASP is to conduct flight oriented, integrated, system-level research and technology development that supports the flight research needs across the ARMD strategic thrusts, the programs and their projects. The IASP is focused on the rigorous execution of highly complex flight tests and related experiments. The flight tests will support all phases of the ARMD programs’ research, not just the culmination of research activities. For technologies at low Technology Readiness Level, the IASP flight research will accelerate the development and/or determine the feasibility of those technologies. For more mature technologies, it will reduce the risk and accelerate transition of those technologies to industry. The program will also provide flight test capabilities and identify other national or international capabilities to meet ARMD, other NASA mission directorates and national flight test requirements.

 Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration in the National Airspace System
(UAS in the NAS)

The Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in the National Airspace System (NAS) (UAS-NAS) Project provides research findings to reduce technical barriers associated with integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the National Airspace System utilizing integrated system level tests in a relevant environment.

NASA 804 flight with Flex Foil. Flight Demonstrations and Capabilities (FDC)
The Flight Demonstrations and Capabilities (FDC) Project conducts complex and integrated small-scale flight research demonstrations in support the ARMD programs. In addition, FDC operates, sustains and enhances those specific flight research and test capabilities necessary to address and achieve the ARMD Strategic Plan, ARMD program/project activities, other NASA mission directorate activities and national strategic needs.
